Fees for fly fishing instruction and guidingFees for fly fishing instruction and guiding quoted below are for 'one-to-one' instruction or guiding on Devon rivers or stillwaters. I am happy to take two adults together, provided they are either good friends, partners or relatives, and I am happy to take up to 2 youngsters provided they are accompanied by a responsible adult. Group instruction for up to 4 at Kennick Reservoir is negotiable. When two or more adults attend instruction/guiding the proportionate cost decreases. So, a 6 hour session costing £125 for one person will cost an additional £30 per additional person. This reduces the cost for 2 people to £77.50 each (£155/2) - see fees below. However please appreciate that I have to work twice as hard and you have to share my time! Please note that my basic hourly fees remain unchanged for this season! Instruction and Guiding FeesMinimum session 2 hours - for casting clinics and Spey Casting Club. A half-day's instruction or guiding is based on 4 hours. A full day's instruction or guiding is based on 6 hours. An evening's sea trout fishing is based on approximately 3 hours. Two and three day courses of instruction or guiding will be designed specifically around individual requirements, the aim as always being to ensure the maximum progression in personal development of skills and experience. Two people share the cost - and me! FeesAutumn/Winter casting clinics and Spey Casting Club (1 Oct 07 - 29 Feb 08) only:Casting clinics (2 hours): £30 for one person (plus £15 for each additional person) Spey Casting Club (2 hours): £20 per person Game angling season (1 Feb 08 - 30 Sep 08):Casting clinics (2 hours): £40 for one person (plus £15 for each additional person) Half day: £85 for one person (plus £20 for each additional person) Full day: £125 for one person (plus £30 for each additional person) Evening/night sea trout fishing: £65 (maximum number 2 for safety reasons) Two day course of instruction or guiding: £220 for one person (plus £55 for each additional person) Please note that Gift Vouchers purchased before 1 Jan 08 and a few bookings for the new season made before 13 Jan 08 are not affected by the new season pricing structures. Fuel Surcharges for 2008Owing to rapid rises in the cost of fuel since last season and the prospect of further increases in 2008 a small fuel surcharge of £10 may be added for trips to the Rivers Yeo, Culm and Creedy and £15 to the Rivers Taw and Exe. Conversely if fuel prices come down these surcharges will be lifted. This system is I believe far more open and transparent than simply hiding these rises by an increase in fees. Sea trout fishingBased on a minimum of 3 hours. Undertaken in the evening and/or night. If added onto a day's instruction or guiding, there will be a break between the two sessions for rest and supper. This includes the hire of all necessary equipment. Youngsters 12-17 onlyThe same rates apply for up to 2 youngsters on a cost sharing basis. Either 3 hour or half day only. Please note: A responsible adult must accompany all youngsters. Colin has undergone mandatory ‘Child Protection’ training and has been cleared through the CRB as required by the Game Angling Instructors Association. Equipment and PermitsThe fees above include the hire of all necessary equipment, but not fishing permits, which range from £10-£15 a day for brown trout fishing on local rivers, £5 for a one-fish limit at Kennick Reservoir, £20-£25 for sea trout fishing on the rivers Teign and Taw, and £30-£40 for salmon fishing on the rivers Exe and Taw. For rainbow trout fishing on small stillwaters, £10 per day plus approximately £2 per lb for all fish taken. Reservoirs normally charge a flat rate of around £20, £13 for an evening, for rainbow trout fishing which includes a bag of 4-6 fish. All Inclusive PackagesIf you are travelling by train to one of Exeter’s rail stations or by air to Exeter Airport, I operate a ‘meet & greet’ package which can include booking accommodation. For a one-off fee of £25 I will:
LicencesPlease ensure you come equipped with the appropriate Environment Agency (EA) Rod Licence for either Non-Migratory Trout (brown trout and rainbow trout) or, in the case of salmon and sea trout, a Full Migratory Rod Licence. They can be obtained from any Post Office. One day, 8 day and annual licences are available. DressAlso please ensure you are appropriately dressed for the weather and conditions (jumpers, trousers , headwear and stout boots etc). For safety reasons headwear, spectacles and/or sun glasses must be worn for fishing. I can provide basic waterproofs and good quality waders to fit most sizes.
